PR Account Director – Consumer

Purpose of role

The Account Director is responsible for providing operational support to the senior directors by managing a portfolio of clients, managing account teams and contributing to business development initiatives, the combination of which delivers excellent results for our clients and Grayling.

Accountabilities

  • Uses in depth media and digital knowledge, expertise of specific sectors and industries, creativity tools and data driven insights to deliver strategic counsel and solutions to clients and shares this knowledge with the wider team, managing and supporting their team in the delivery of their roles
  • Implements crisis management techniques and advises on potential courses of action, providing support to the senior account lead
  • Advises and counsels clients on the role communications plays in an organisation’s business strategy, using the appropriate methods to develop strong working relationships
  • Resolves client issues and has clarity about desired outcomes, escalating as appropriate and recommending best approach to senior account lead
  • Develops new business leads and assists in the negotiation process with prospective and existing clients and suppliers
  • Supports the senior directors in delivering the new business process, leveraging the skills and experience of the wider team  
  • Monitors media and industry trends and landscape for new opportunities to sell in additional Grayling products and services to clients to enhance revenue and profitability
  • Assists in creating budgets and handles the ongoing profitable management of them, ensuring a balance between client service and profitability and providing rationale to the client in order to demonstrate added value
  • Assists the senior management team in developing long term client satisfaction by engaging with client service programmes
  • Assists the senior team in setting KPIs and measurement metrics, using them to increase client satisfaction by addressing issues with the account team
  • Develops the team and individuals using the appropriate people management techniques and company processes, resolving issues promptly and fairly and championing achievements, empowering the team achieve their full potential in a positive and supportive environment
  • Connects with colleagues from across the global Grayling network, leveraging opportunities to work together for commercial benefit and to enhance professional development and learning
  • Builds an external network for the benefit of self and the wider business by seeking out and attending external professional networking events and identifying potential new business opportunities
  • Continually develops professional and management skills through training initiatives and learning opportunities, keeping up to date with client-specific media, industry and digital developments and applying this knowledge in their work

Scope  

A range of account and budget responsibilities in local markets, with some international account relationships.  Likely to manage senior client relationships on a regular basis.  Likely to manage 1 – 5 employees either as line or operational manager.  

Key Relationships  

Internal – account team and other department members, colleagues across the business including international, up to and including CEO level

External – holds key day-to-day client relationships, journalists and media professionals, suppliers, professional bodies

  • Has sharp business and PR acumen to quickly determine short and long term priorities for self and junior team members to ensure all client needs are met
  • Experienced in managing and working on a diverse range of accounts
  • Strategic, analytical thinker with the initiative to see a program through from start to finish
  • Strong understanding of both traditional and digital public relations
  • Digitally savvy
